Jammu, Mar 10 : Jammu and Kashmir Bank marked International Women’s Day with a special function at its Jammu Divisional Office, where Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Amitava Chatterjee reaffirmed the institution’s continued focus on promoting women’s empowerment and financial independence.

The event brought together senior women officers of the Bank, including Deputy General Managers Aneeta Nehru, Virender Kaur and Hafeeza Rahim, along with Assistant General Managers and senior managers. Officials from the Bank’s Corporate Headquarters in Srinagar and Zonal Office Jammu also joined the programme both physically and through virtual participation.

Executive Director Sudhir Gupta, Chief General Managers, General Managers, Deputy General Managers and other senior officers attended the event in Jammu, while senior officials from the Srinagar headquarters joined virtually.

Addressing the gathering, Chatterjee reflected on the evolving role of women in society and professional spaces. He observed that while women have long been leaders within families and communities, the extension of similar opportunities in professional fields emerged only in recent generations.

“At J&K Bank, we firmly believe that empowering women is not only a social responsibility but also a strategic imperative for inclusive economic growth. Women today are leading change across sectors, and it is encouraging to see their increasing representation within our own organisation as well as among our customers,” he said.

Highlighting the Bank’s engagement with women customers, Chatterjee noted that nearly 42 per cent of its clientele comprises women, reflecting their growing trust in the institution. He added that the Bank would continue to introduce products, initiatives and outreach programmes aimed at strengthening financial independence and entrepreneurial aspirations among women.

Concluding his address, the MD and CEO recited a poem highlighting the influence of women in shaping both personal and professional spheres.

Earlier, DGM Hafeeza Rahim, in her welcome address, said the year 2026 marks 115 years of International Women’s Day celebrations under the theme “Give to Gain”. She said the theme emphasises generosity, collaboration and shared empowerment as pathways to sustainable and inclusive growth.

Rahim remarked that empowering women strengthens families, communities and institutions alike.

Speaking on the occasion, DGM Virender Kaur referred to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Salesforce India Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya and former Axis Bank MD and CEO Shikha Sharma as inspiring examples for women professionals. She stressed the need for supportive workplaces that enable women to pursue leadership roles and contribute to a progressive banking ecosystem.

DGM and Zonal Head (Jammu) Aneeta Nehru delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the Bank’s leadership and employees for their participation in the celebrations. She said the Bank continues to foster equal opportunity, professional growth and leadership among women employees while extending financial solutions that support women entrepreneurs, professionals and households.

Apart from organising internal events, the Bank has also supported several programmes related to women’s development in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country in connection with International Women’s Day.

The celebrations, officials said, reflect the Bank’s ongoing efforts to promote an inclusive work culture and expand financial opportunities for women across society.
