New Delhi, Mar 30: National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi launched a blistering attack on the BJP in the Lok Sabha on Monday, accusing it of pushing India toward “right-wing extremism” while ignoring “institutionalised” bias against Muslims and minorities.
During a debate on efforts to curb left-wing extremism (LWE), the Srinagar MP questioned the government’s selective focus. “You don’t want to free India from right-wing extremism, you want to consign India to right-wing extremism. Is extremism only connected with left-wing or Muslims?” he said.
Mehdi demanded parliamentary discussion on Hindutva-driven vigilantism, economic boycotts, and demographic fears. “When will institutionalised extremism against Muslims and minorities be discussed? We are told we are from outside, from Pakistan… vigilantism has increased in name of cow protection, love jihad. Victims are harassed institutionally. When will Hindutva extremism be discussed?”
He linked extremism to societal injustice, noting, “My father was killed due to one form of extremism. We will fight that… but the injustice of society has to be finished.” Mehdi alleged, “As statistics show, one kind of extremism helps your political shop to prosper,” calling for peace, justice, and rule of law free from bias
