Kargil: In a major public outreach initiative, Member of Parliament Mohammad Haneefa Jan undertook an extensive tour of Shargole constituency, engaging directly with residents across several villages to assess developmental needs and address local grievances. The MP was accompanied by senior government officials during the visit, which covered Batambis, Lobar, Archu, Kaskarik, Ringo, Thangbu, Doks, Grong, Stargah, and Motirik villages.
During his interactions, villagers of Choskore valley raised concerns over unchecked garbage dumping and pollution caused by stone crushers, which they said were damaging the environment and threatening grazing lands. The MP directed departments concerned to take prompt corrective measures, stressing the need for stricter monitoring to protect local ecology.
Responding to complaints over a long-standing grazing land dispute, Haneefa Jan assured residents that the matter would be examined in detail and remedial steps taken to reach a fair resolution.
The MP also visited the tomb of Syed Ibrahim Shah — a revered religious site in the valley — and called for its renovation under the Kargil Development Authority, citing its cultural and historical importance.
Area Councillor Nasir Munshi urged the construction of a dam on Naktul mountain to utilize winter snowmelt for irrigation during summer. The MP welcomed the proposal and said a detailed project report would be prepared under suitable central or state schemes.
Munshi also raised concerns over the Batambis–Kanoor road, particularly issues related to Border Roads Organisation (BRO) labour and land compensation. The MP assured early resolution and directed the department to expedite the compensation process.
Addressing connectivity issues, Haneefa Jan said steps were being taken to make the BSNL tower functional soon. He also met local women, who highlighted gaps in health services, including challenges faced by ASHA workers and ANMs during emergencies. Issues related to non-functional hand pumps under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) were also discussed, with assurances of immediate action.
On education, the MP reiterated that teacher appointments would follow government norms — one teacher per ten students — and promised to fill vacancies where criteria were met. He directed officials to prioritize repairs of irrigation canals, posting of headmasters, and setting up ration stores in villages where required.
In Archu, villagers flagged water scarcity, the need to upgrade the local school and health sub-centre, and sought a school bus for higher secondary students. At Kaskarik, Ringo, and Thangbu, demands included an ice-skiing ground, school upgradation, library revival, and animal and sheep husbandry centres. The MP assured to explore all possible avenues under relevant schemes, urging youth to pursue sports and self-employment opportunities.
At Doks, residents demanded improved water supply, fencing of tanks, a medical aid centre, and a digital library-cum-weaving centre. Similar concerns over water and road connectivity were raised at Grong, where the MP urged communities to resolve internal disputes to facilitate ongoing projects.
In Stargah, villagers sought construction of the Gonkha link road and regular medical visits to remote areas, while residents of Motirik demanded road widening, footpaths for school children, and assistance for the Imam Bargah. The MP assured that these issues would be taken up on priority and appealed for community cooperation in implementing development works.
On the Jal Jeevan Mission, the MP admitted certain lapses in the first phase and said they would be addressed in the next round of implementation.
Concluding his tour, Haneefa Jan thanked residents for their active participation and assured that their “genuine demands” would be pursued with the concerned authorities for early redressal.
