Kargil, Oct 28: Ladakh MP Mohammad Haneefa Jan on Wednesday launched a multi-village outreach in Shargole constituency, directing district authorities to fast-track public works ranging from irrigation and health infrastructure to digital and road connectivity.
Accompanied by local councillor Mohd Jawad and senior officers from ICDS, education, PMGSY and allied departments, the MP held back-to-back public interactions in Lotsum, Darket, Shargole, Mulbek, Wakha, Yokma Rgyalkhang, Chati Thang and Tingdoo.
At the first halt in Lotsum, residents sought an irrigation canal, a Primary Health Centre and facility upgrades at the local Maktab. They also pressed for conversion of the high school into a higher secondary institution. The MP instructed departments to immediately draft the irrigation project and assess academic feasibility.
In Darket, villagers demanded a trauma centre, multiple irrigation interventions, a library and an animal husbandry unit. Jan assured prioritisation amid upcoming resource planning.
At Shargole, demands centred on a 5G telecom tower, upgrading the existing PHC into a Community Health Centre, a village committee hall and administrative restructuring to cut access delays. The MP ordered urgent repair of a failed submersible pump at Manathang, set a 10-day deadline for Jal Jeevan Mission grievances and asked BRO to realign a road bend and plan a culvert.
Mulbek Dongrdan residents flagged pending JJM works and sought a public hall. Jan said JJM Phase-II would resolve the backlog and backed proposals for the Chamba Statue, Photang precinct development and cultural infrastructure.
In Wakha and Yokma Rgyalkhang, residents raised road blacktopping, irrigation headwork repairs and the long-pending airstrip proposal at Wakha. Jan said an earlier site survey was found technically unviable but a fresh feasibility study has been requested, while Kargil Civil Airport expansion is already under review in Delhi.
At Chati Thang, the MP reiterated a time-bound phased response to local infrastructure gaps.
Later at Tingdoo, villagers sought school upgradation, link-road blacktopping, an ambulance, ice hockey rink, graveyard rooftop and a children’s park. Jan said the school proposal would be processed under established norms and rest of the demands would be taken up on priority.
The MP concluded the day’s tour reaffirming that development grievances will be addressed through structured departmental follow-up rather than ad-hoc assurances.
