KARGIL: In a vigorous push to strengthen grassroots engagement across Kargil district, Ladakh Member of Parliament Mohmad Haneefa Jan toured the Poyen constituency, meeting residents from remote hamlets to the busy lanes of Bagh-e-Khomeini to address long-pending grievances and gather local feedback.
Accompanied by Councillor Mohd Amin, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, the Block Development Officer, Executive Engineer PWD, and several district officials, the MP held back-to-back public interactions, focusing on issues ranging from irrigation and healthcare to connectivity and infrastructure.
Foremost among public concerns were the introduction of a solar lift irrigation scheme, establishment of a full-fledged health centre, expansion of road networks to ease traffic congestion, and revamping of irrigation khuls to ensure sustained water supply for agriculture.
At Akchamal, locals pressed for the posting of a doctor at the local medical centre, appointment of a principal at Government Higher Secondary School Akchamal, construction of washrooms at Imam Bargah, upgradation of Netaji Hostel, and resolution of pending MGNREGA payments.
In Biathang Shilikchay, residents sought compensation and early completion of a stalled link road, a wooden bridge for inter-village connectivity, and faster execution of works under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
During a public meeting at Panchayat Ghar Shilikchay, villagers demanded the operationalisation of the Common Facility Centre and improvements in the local road network, including the construction of the Imam Bargah Road. Responding on the spot, MP Haneefa Jan issued instructions to officials to address the concerns without delay.
The outreach continued through Mal and Hunderman, where the demands included better road connectivity, installation of mobile towers, reopening of the Kargil–Skardu road, and construction of bunkers.
In Hunderman Broq, residents highlighted the need for a new Maktab building, relocation of the medical centre, renovation of irrigation channels, demarcation of Panchayat wards, enhancement of porters’ salaries, and creation of an ice hockey rink with adequate equipment. The MP assured that several of these projects, including the distribution of kitchen sets, would be taken up in the next financial year.
Haneefa Jan pledged to raise all the issues before the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, the UT Administration, and the Central Government for early resolution. He urged villagers to take active part in Jan Hit Camps to stay informed about government schemes and employment initiatives.
Councillor Mohd Amin, expressing gratitude to the UT Administration of Ladakh, LAHDC Kargil, and the District Administration, appreciated the approval of the ₹27 crore Hunderman Lift Irrigation Project, calling it a major step toward agricultural sustainability in the region. He also highlighted ongoing developmental efforts in his constituency, reiterating the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth.
The MP’s extensive tour, marked by direct public interaction and on-spot directives, reflected a renewed thrust on responsive governance and development-driven dialogue in one of Ladakh’s most geographically challenging constituencies.
