Kargil: Member of Parliament (MP) Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan, on Sunday undertook an extensive tour of the Barsoo Constituency, covering a series of remote villages and becoming the first MP from Ladakh to visit Itchoo, the last village in the region where road connectivity is yet to be established.
Accompanied by the Councillor of Barsoo, SDM Sankoo, and officials from various departments, the MP interacted with residents at each halt, listening to their concerns and developmental needs.
At Bartoo, villagers pressed for the shifting of the ST line and upgradation of local schools, while in Itchoo, residents demanded helicopter service for patients during winter, grants for winter coaching, and an ambulance facility. They also raised other infrastructure-related issues.
In Shargandi, locals sought better basic amenities, whereas in Pangbar, the demands focused on a road link to Sapi, ambulance service, computer systems for the library, and construction of a new primary school building.
At Tiket, villagers appealed for heating arrangements, beautification funds for the Imam Bargah, upgradation of the High School to Higher Secondary level, installation of a mobile tower, and funds for link roads. Similarly, Khandi residents urged for protection of the sacred spring water and development of a playfield. The MP also inspected the KREDA Small Hydro Power Project during his visit to the area.
Further north, at Gamating, residents sought road widening and a school bus, while in Hamburtik, the demands included school upgradation, a medical aid centre, mobile tower, and community hall. At Pattu, the MP received representations for bund construction along the nallah, library equipment, irrigation canal funds, and a bridge connection to the village.
During public interactions at Hamburtik and Purkichey, MP Haneefa Jan assured that genuine grievances will be addressed on priority, directing officials to act immediately on minor issues. He added that major developmental concerns would be taken up with the UT administration and the Central Government, and announced plans for a follow-up meeting with concerned departments after the conclusion of the tour.
Earlier, during his visit to Chibar, the MP inaugurated a village museum collection created through community efforts. Praising the initiative, he instructed the Tourism and Culture Department to explore the area’s tourism potential.
The tour, marked by extensive engagement across multiple villages, aimed at bridging administrative outreach to remote parts of Barsoo and ensuring that long-pending local aspirations are formally placed on the development agenda.
