BHABNIPUR-SORBHOG (ASSAM), Apr 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday alleged that the Indian National Congress continues to “sing to the tune of” Pakistan, even as his government has taken strong action against terrorism through Operation Sindoor targeting terror camps across the border.
Addressing an election rally in Assam’s Barpeta district, Modi said such a stance compromises national security and asserted that it cannot be allowed.
On the development front, he criticised the Congress for what he described as a short-term and narrow approach, alleging that its policies were driven by corruption. In contrast, he said the Bharatiya Janata Party focuses on long-term, inclusive development for all sections of society.
The prime minister also accused the Congress of neglecting the armed forces by not implementing the ‘One Rank, One Pension’ scheme, adding that his government ensured justice for soldiers.
Highlighting progress in Assam, Modi said peace and stability in the state were achieved through sustained efforts and implementation of various peace accords over the past decade. He added that this stability has paved the way for development under BJP rule and stressed the need to keep Congress out of power to maintain that momentum.
Appealing to women voters, Modi said the 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament would be implemented from the 2029 general elections. He urged women in Assam to encourage all parties to support the Bill related to this provision.
Elections to the 126 Assembly constituencies in the state are scheduled for April 9, with counting of votes set for May 4.
