AKHNOOR, JUNE 11: A government school teacher who had been missing for several days while on Census duty was found dead in the Ranbir Canal near the Bathra area on Tuesday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Vikram Chand Sharma, son of Sham Pal and a resident of Mawa Karora. He was posted at Middle School Gurha Jagir.
According to officials, Sharma went missing on June 5 after leaving home on his motorcycle to carry out Census-related duties in the Bomal area. Before proceeding to work, he had dropped his wife, Shobha Rani, at her school.
When he failed to return home and could not be contacted, his wife lodged a missing report at Akhnoor Police Station.
Following an extensive search operation, teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered Sharma’s body from the Ranbir Canal near Bathra.
The body has been shifted for post-mortem examination, while police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.
