Baramulla, Jan 4: Security forces detected and destroyed a militant hideout during a joint search operation in the Suchliwaran forest area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla, recovering arms, ammunition and other materials, officials said Sunday.
The operation, conducted by Baramulla Police in coordination with Central Reserve Police Force 53 Battalion, 46 Rashtriya Rifles and an Army Surveillance Team, led to the discovery of significant cache inside the hideout.
A thorough search yielded 24 rounds of AK-47 ammunition of Pakistani origin in rusted condition and two hand grenades.
Officials said the seized materials also included a steel canister containing food supplies, a medicine strip, a wireless antenna, and various tools such as a saw, axe, spade, pickaxe and wire cutter—most in deteriorated condition.
Everyday articles recovered from the site included umbrellas, a pair of shoes, socks, head warm caps, thermocot sheets, a steel bowl, carry bags, and clothing items including a jacket and trousers. Additionally, a blanket, quilt, approximately one kilogram of rotten dates and an empty soft drink bottle were found.
The search operation was supervised by the Deputy Superintendent of Police Operations Baramulla, with support from the Bomb Disposal Squad alongside other security units.
Following completion of all required formalities, the hideout was demolished on-site. Officials confirmed no casualties or injuries occurred during the operation.
Police have initiated further investigation to determine who established the hideout and its duration of use.
