Nyoma, Apr 7: In preparation for the upcoming tourist and business season, the Merchant Association Nyoma on Monday organised a cleanliness drive across Nyoma village and its main market area, mobilising local traders to improve sanitation and public awareness.
The drive, held under the chairmanship of Association President Tashi Gyaltsan, witnessed the participation of around 40 members who undertook coordinated cleaning activities across key sections of the market. The initiative focused on ensuring a hygienic environment in one of Changthang’s important commercial centres ahead of increased seasonal footfall.
According to the organisers, the annual exercise is aimed at promoting cleanliness while reinforcing community responsibility among both residents and visitors. Members cleared waste, cleaned public spaces, and reviewed the upkeep of commonly used areas within the market.
During the programme, traders and locals were urged to make consistent use of dustbins installed across shops and public areas. The association stressed that sustained public cooperation remains essential for maintaining hygiene standards, especially during peak tourist months.
Highlighting the broader objective, the association stated that maintaining cleanliness is directly linked to public health and the overall appeal of the region as a tourist destination. It also called upon villagers and stakeholders to actively contribute towards preserving environmental standards in Changthang.
The initiative forms part of the association’s annual efforts to ensure that Nyoma remains prepared to accommodate visitors while upholding sanitation and environmental awareness.
