Srinagar, Dec 7: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti urged the Centre on Sunday to reassess its Jammu and Kashmir policy and kickstart a reconciliation process, enabling residents of the Union territory to live with honour and dignity.
Mufti contested the government’s post-2019 Article 370 abrogation narrative that Kashmir is stable, with youth swapping stones for books and computers. “The reality on the ground tells a different story. The Prime Minister, Home Minister, and National Security Advisor must review the J&K approach,” she told reporters.
Highlighting her party’s public dialogues with diverse societal groups to grasp public challenges, Mufti cited the shock of educated youth’s involvement in the Delhi blast. “As a mother, it disturbed me deeply—why opt for death over life? These interactions will continue across J&K and beyond.”
She stressed the urgent need for reconciliation to resolve grievances, rejecting coercion via UAPA, PSA, NIA, or other agencies, so people can thrive happily in the country.
