New Delhi, Jul 3: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday described the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit as “highly successful” and announced that 2027 will be celebrated as the India-Japan Year of Shared Horizons, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi concluded her three-day official visit to India on Friday after holding wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at strengthening the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two nations.
In a post on X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen a partnership that is vital for their shared growth and prosperity, while also serving as an anchor for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
He said Takaichi departed after a “highly successful” summit and was seen off by Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh.
During the summit, India and Japan unveiled several key initiatives, including a new economic partnership framework, a defence agreement for co-development of military equipment, and measures to strengthen energy cooperation to enhance resilience against global oil supply disruptions.
The two leaders also discussed commemorating the 75th anniversary of India-Japan diplomatic relations in 2027 through a series of events under the theme “India-Japan Year of Shared Horizons.”
Takaichi, who visited India from July 1 to 3 at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi, also received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan during her first official visit to the country.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the visit as “extremely successful,” highlighting the broad range of outcomes and the growing depth of the bilateral partnership.
