Kargil, Feb 14: The Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil on Saturday carried out a surprise inspection of restaurants and food stalls across prominent market areas of the town to enforce food safety standards and hygiene norms.
The drive was led by Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Kargil, Dr. Sarwar Shahzad, JKAS, who inspected eateries from Bus Stand to Lal Chowk and Old Hospital Road. The inspection focused on cleanliness, quality control, and adherence to prescribed food safety regulations.
During the checking, the Executive Officer examined the use of Ajinomoto, also known as monosodium glutamate, in momos and other food items. He observed that the use of Ajinomoto is injurious to health and stressed that food business operators must avoid its usage.
Officials imposed fines amounting to Rs 6,000 on violators found breaching food safety norms. The Executive Officer directed restaurant owners and food stall operators to strictly follow hygiene guidelines and maintain quality standards to safeguard public health.
The Municipal Committee reiterated its commitment to continued monitoring and enforcement to ensure safe and hygienic food for residents and visitors in Kargil town.
