Ladakh Apr 5 : The Union Territory of Ladakh is witnessing a surge in mass cleanliness drives, with active participation from government agencies and local communities, as part of a wider push to keep the region clean and green ahead of the tourist season. The drives, launched on 16 March 2026 under the directions of the Lieutenant Governor, are being carried out across multiple Panchayats in District Kargil—including Chanigund, Nagma Kausar, Wakha and Stongday—to remove dust, debris and garbage from streets and public spaces.
In Leh, major stretches around the airport, Lok Niwas, the main market, and other key tourist hubs are being cleaned in a “mission mode” with coordinated efforts by various departments, security forces, and local bodies. Officials describe the campaign as a strong collective commitment to environmental cleanliness and sustainability, aimed at positioning Ladakh as a clean, eco‑friendly and welcoming destination for visitors.
