SRINAGAR DEC 31: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a man who allegedly defrauded job seekers of lakhs of rupees by posing as a senior government official and promising them government employment.
The chargesheet was submitted before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Budgam, in FIR No. 13/2023 under Section 420 IPC against Ghulam Nabi Hudda, son of Mohammad Hudda, a resident of Satakchay, Kargil, currently residing at Gasiyar Hawal, Zadibal, Srinagar.
According to the complaint, the victim came into contact with the accused in 2021, who falsely presented himself as a high-ranking government officer. Hudda allegedly promised to secure government jobs for the complainant and others in exchange for money.
Based on these assurances, the complainant transferred lakhs of rupees to the accused’s bank account (Account No. 0100010100007704) in nine separate instalments. Despite repeated follow-ups, Hudda neither arranged the promised employment nor returned the money, officials said.
Following the complaint, Crime Branch Kashmir (now EOW Kashmir) launched a detailed investigation. The probe substantiated the allegations, revealing that the accused had intentionally deceived the complainant with dishonest intent, causing significant financial loss.
Investigators established that Hudda’s actions constituted an offence punishable under Section 420 IPC (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).
After completing the investigation, EOW Kashmir submitted the chargesheet before the court for judicial proceedings. The case highlights the persistent menace of job fraud targeting vulnerable individuals seeking government employment.
