Leh, Mar 31: Rajasthan Diwas was observed at Lok Niwas in Leh on Monday with a focus on cultural exchange, shared traditions and the role of personnel serving in challenging conditions, as part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme aimed at strengthening bonds across states and Union Territories.
The event, held at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, brought together officials and staff along with personnel from Rajasthan posted in Ladakh, with deliberations centring on historical linkages, cultural affinities and the spirit of national integration.
Speaking on the occasion, Under Secretary Sumera Shafi underscored the parallels between Ladakh and Rajasthan, particularly in the courage and endurance displayed by their people. She also referred to the increasing prominence of both regions on the tourism map, attributing it to their distinct landscapes and cultural heritage.
Recalling her visit to Rajasthan, she highlighted its vibrant traditions, including the Ghoomar dance and its cuisine such as Dal Baati Churma, noting that such cultural expressions reflect the diversity the initiative seeks to celebrate. She also acknowledged the contribution of personnel from across the country, including Rajasthan, who continue to serve in Ladakh despite difficult terrain and climatic conditions, commending their commitment to duty.
Participants shared their experiences of being stationed in Ladakh, describing the region’s terrain and expressing a sense of pride in their service. One speaker reflected on Rajasthan’s historical evolution, recalling the legacy of Rajputana and the sacrifices of its warriors, and observed that the forts across the state continue to stand as reminders of resilience and defence against invasions.
Rajasthan, known as the “Land of Kings,” was formed on March 30, 1949, following the integration of princely states such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaisalmer into the Indian Union. The process was completed in 1956 with the merger of Ajmer-Merwara, giving the state its present structure.
A message from Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde was read out during the programme.
The observance forms part of a broader outreach under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which seeks to promote awareness of India’s diverse cultural heritage while fostering a sense of unity among its regions.
