Srinagar, May 14 : Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the ‘Shaurya Gatha’ Complex at SM Hill in Tangdhar, Karnah area of Kupwara district, marking a key step in promoting battlefield tourism, heritage conservation, and border-area development.
The Lieutenant Governor praised the efforts of the Northern Command, Chinar Corps, engineers, security personnel, and local residents for completing the project in a short span of time. He said the complex pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers and will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.
“Our brave soldiers have laid down their lives in defence of the nation. The Shaurya Gatha Complex stands as a symbol of their valour and sacrifice,” the Lieutenant Governor said, adding that the initiative would boost tourism, homestays, local handicrafts, and youth entrepreneurship in the border region.
He also highlighted the ongoing development in Jammu and Kashmir, contrasting it with conditions in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and reiterated that Jammu & Kashmir “is, was, and will always remain an integral part of India.” He said the region is witnessing peace, progress, and growing economic prosperity.
The Lieutenant Governor further stated that initiatives under the Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan programme will strengthen border tourism and unlock economic opportunities in Tangdhar-Karnah. He also noted that seven villages in the region have been included under the Vibrant Village Programme to improve infrastructure, livelihoods, and living standards.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the Sadhna Tunnel, he said it will ensure all-weather connectivity and enhance trade, healthcare access, education, and disaster response capabilities in the region.
Senior Army and civil administration officials, including Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, GOC-in-C Northern Command; Lt Gen Balbir Singh, GOC Chinar Corps; Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg; and other senior officers from the Army, police, and civil administration attended the inauguration ceremony.
