Srinagar, June 23: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor directed senior officials to ensure effective arrangements for security, traffic management, law and order, and the availability of essential public services during the religious observance.
Emphasising close coordination among all concerned departments, LG Sinha called for timely and efficient delivery of services. He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted power and drinking water supply, proper sanitation, medical facilities, ambulance availability, and deployment of fire and emergency response teams along procession routes.
The Lieutenant Governor also instructed senior officers to remain present on the ground for real-time monitoring and quick resolution of public concerns.
“All arrangements should be made with utmost sensitivity and efficiency. Senior officers must remain available on the ground and maintain continuous monitoring to ensure a prompt response to any situation,” he said.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg briefed the meeting about the arrangements being put in place by various departments for the peaceful conduct of Muharram.
LG Sinha also directed the Inspector General of Police (Traffic) to implement a comprehensive traffic management plan for Muharram as well as the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra to ensure smooth movement of processions, pilgrims and the general public.
The IGP Traffic was asked to coordinate with field officers and concerned agencies for effective implementation of traffic arrangements. Officials were also directed to create awareness about traffic standard operating procedures (SOPs), cut-off timings, and increase RFID card counters to facilitate devotees visiting the Shri Amarnath Ji shrine.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, senior administrative officials, police officers, divisional commissioners, municipal commissioners and other concerned officers.
