SRINAGAR, May 10: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday handed over appointment letters to newly recruited constables of Jammu and Kashmir Police during a ceremony held at the Armed Police Complex, Zewan in Srinagar.
Around 4,000 recruits were selected through a transparent and merit-based recruitment process conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board.
Congratulating the recruits, the Lieutenant Governor urged them to serve with integrity, impartiality and complete dedication towards the nation. He described joining the police force as not just a profession but a responsibility linked to the sacrifices and legacy of J&K Police personnel.
“Joining Jammu and Kashmir Police is not merely a career choice but the acceptance of a legacy written in blood. I am confident you will uphold the honour of this force,” Sinha said.
Paying tribute to fallen police personnel, he said the peace and progress witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir are the result of the sacrifices and commitment of brave police officers.
“The Jammu and Kashmir Police is recognised for its selfless service, sacrifice, public trust and excellence in maintaining law and order as well as carrying out counter-terrorism operations,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also stressed the need to modernise policing by integrating Artificial Intelligence and advanced technologies into security operations. He asked the police leadership to prepare a roadmap for making the force future-ready.
Highlighting emerging security threats, Sinha said modern challenges now extend beyond conventional terrorism and include cybercrime, narco-terrorism, digital fraud and narrative warfare.
“Today’s criminals and terrorists often operate through code, data and encrypted networks instead of traditional weapons. Cybercrime and digital threats are realities of the present and are damaging lives, livelihoods and public trust,” he said.
He urged all wings of the police force to effectively use digital infrastructure and technology to combat these evolving threats while continuing efforts to eliminate terrorism and ensure public safety.
The event was attended by Atal Dulloo, Nalin Prabhat, senior police and civil administration officials, and family members of the newly recruited constables.
