Srinagar/Jammu, Sept 09: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the two army personnel who lost their lives in the Kulgam encounter, asserting that their valour and indomitable spirit will always be remembered by the nation.
“The LG paid tributes to the brave army personnel Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu, who made the supreme sacrifice in the ongoing operations against terrorists in Kulgam,” an official spokesman said.
“My thoughts are with the bereaved families. The nation stands shoulder to shoulder with them in this difficult hour,” the Lieutenant Governor added.
The tribute came a day after a fierce encounter broke out in the Gudar forest area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir, where two terrorists—including one suspected to be a Pakistani national—and two soldiers were killed. The operation was launched by security forces based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.
During the gunfight, Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu laid down their lives, while an Army Major sustained injuries.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also paid floral tributes to the fallen soldiers at a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. “The Chief Minister today paid homage to the two brave soldiers who lost their lives in Kulgam. He observed that their exemplary courage, unwavering valour, and ultimate sacrifice will be eternally remembered with deep respect and gratitude,” the CM’s office said in a post on X.
Officials confirmed that the encounter began when security forces, acting on intelligence inputs, launched a search operation in the Gudar forest area. The operation soon turned into a fierce exchange of fire, leading to the elimination of two terrorists, including one believed to be from Pakistan. In the process, two soldiers were martyred and an Army Major was injured.
