Leh, Sept 28: With a gracious appeal for calm, cooperation and upholding tradition of peace and assuring his commitment to protect people’s rights and cultural identity, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta chaired a high-level meeting in Leh to review Ladakh’s security situation, marking his second consecutive session on the matter on Sunday.
Attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal, DGP Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, ADG CRPF Rajesh Kumar, and senior Army and and senior officers of the Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the meeting focused on agency coordination and preparedness to ensure peace in the Union Territory.
LG Gupta emphasized that maintaining law and order is non-negotiable, warning that strict action awaits anyone attempting to disrupt Ladakh’s peace, harmony, or stability.
He reassured residents of the administration’s dedication to protecting their rights, aspirations, and cultural identity, urging them to stay calm, cooperate with authorities, and uphold Ladakh’s traditions of peace and brotherhood.
Issuing a strong and clear message to anti-social and disruptive elements, warning them that strict action will be taken against anyone found trying to incite violence or create unrest, the LG reassured the people of Ladakh of the administration’s complete commitment to safeguarding their rights, aspirations, and cultural identity.
He appealed to the citizens to remain calm, cooperate with the authorities, and continue upholding Ladakh’s age-old traditions of peace, brotherhood, and mutual respect.
“Ladakh belongs to its people, and the government stands firmly with the locals in ensuring their safety, security, and prosperity. Together, we will not allow any divisive force to derail the peace and development of this region,” he affirmed.
The Lieutenant Governor also directed security agencies to maintain heightened vigilance, strengthen coordination, and ensure swift response to any emerging challenges.
He further stressed that the administration’s priority is to protect the interests of the people while ensuring an environment conducive to growth and harmony.
Pertinent to mention here that the other day, chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess the prevailing law and order and overall security scenario.
In his address, Kavinder Gupta emphasized the importance of seamless coordination among civil and security agencies, timely intelligence sharing, and proactive measures to counter any threat to peace and stability. He underscored that law and order must be maintained at all costs while safeguarding the rights and welfare of the citizens.
The Lieutenant Governor commended the people of Leh for their restraint and maturity during today’s relaxations amid restrictions, which helped preserve peace and harmony.
He directed the administration and security agencies to remain vigilant against anti-social and anti-national elements attempting to disturb normalcy.
Reaffirming the Government of India and Union Territory Administration’s commitment, Shri Gupta assured that every step will be taken to protect the security, stability, and welfare of the people of Ladakh.
He stressed that peace is not only vital for stability but also essential for the region’s development and progress.
The meeting concluded with clear directions to adopt a proactive, coordinated, and people-centric approach in addressing the evolving law and order and security challenges in Ladakh
Earlier on Saturday in the wake of the recent violence in Ladakh, LG met Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Northern Command, to review the prevailing situation in Leh.
The high-level discussions centred on the overall security scenario, emerging challenges, and the need for enhanced coordination between the civil administration and the armed forces to ensure peace and stability in the Union Territory. Both sides emphasised preparedness and synergy to deal with any contingency effectively.
The Lieutenant Governor lauded the Army’s role in safeguarding borders and protecting the people, while the Northern Army Commander reaffirmed the Army’s unwavering commitment to the security and integrity of Ladakh.
Northern Army Commander, GOC 14 Corps, Maj Gen Dalbir Singh (MGGS Northern Command) and Col Vikas Vasisht (Deputy Military Advisor to Northern Army Commander) were among those who attended the meeting.
