LEH: The Ladakh Environment and Health Organisation (LEHO) conducted a one-day awareness programme on climate change and global warming at Imamia Mission School, Chushot, on June 9, aimed at sensitising students to environmental challenges and encouraging greater awareness of sustainable practices.
The programme featured essay writing, painting and speech competitions for junior and senior students, providing a platform for young participants to express their understanding of climate-related issues and the growing impact of global warming.
According to organisers, a total of 27 students participated in the various competitions. Winners were felicitated with prizes and certificates in recognition of their performances and their efforts to promote environmental awareness through creative and educational activities.
The event also included interactive sessions focusing on the causes and consequences of climate change, with speakers highlighting the importance of individual and collective action in addressing environmental concerns.
Among those who addressed the gathering were Deputy Director Sh. Tashi Thokmat, LEHO volunteer Mr. Adnan, and Dr. Mohammed Deen, Founder of LEHO. The speakers underscored the need to increase green cover through plantation drives and called for reducing dependence on fossil fuels as practical measures to mitigate the effects of climate change.
They stressed that environmental awareness among students is essential for fostering responsible attitudes towards conservation and sustainable development. The speakers also encouraged participants to become ambassadors of environmental protection within their communities.
The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates, reaffirming LEHO’s commitment to promoting environmental education and encouraging youth participation in efforts to address climate change and global warming.
