LEH, Mar 15: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena conducted a hands-on inspection of Leh Main Market, heritage-rich Leh Old Town, Chuteyrantak, and the Central Asian Museum today, reviewing civic infrastructure, cleanliness drives, and conservation efforts to elevate Ladakh’s urban landscape.
Walking the bustling streets and narrow by-lanes, Saxena issued on-site directives for maintaining public amenities, repairing broken stairs and pavements with uniform tiles, and beautifying the main market—described as uniquely charming—with decorative flower pots, regular stain removal, functional fire hydrants, and strategically placed dustbins to ensure hygiene and tourist appeal.
In Leh Old Town, a cultural treasure trove, he ordered widening of drainage channels to prevent overflows, debris clearance, underground cabling to eliminate dangling wires posing safety risks, encroachment removal, and promotion of traditional architecture in new constructions to preserve Ladakh’s centuries-old legacy.
Saxena mandated a detailed one-month plan tackling sanitation, sewage treatment for future growth, street lighting, parking expansion, and traffic awareness campaigns, while interacting with locals who raised sewage and pathway concerns—assuring swift resolutions.
Accompanied by Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, DGP Mukesh Singh, and senior officials, Saxena stressed that these upgrades are vital for residents’ convenience and boosting Leh’s tourism potential as a clean, organized hub reflecting regional heritage and hospitality.
