Leh, May 08: The fifth day of the ongoing cultural celebrations linked to the Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha witnessed a vibrant cultural evening at Leh Main Market, where artists from different parts of India and Bhutan presented performances centred on the theme “Peace Beyond Borders” on the occasion of the 2569th Vesak Purnima.
The programme was organised by the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the North Zone Cultural Centre as part of the larger cultural schedule being held from May 2 to May 13 in connection with the sacred exposition.
The evening featured performances by Sindhu Sargam Cultural Society, Gujarat State cultural artists, artistes from Bhutan, Uttar Pradesh State cultural artists and Ladakhi performers Tsering Angchuk and Sonam Dolma, who presented the traditional Jabro dance. The programme concluded with a musical performance by the Maryul Sams Yangs Band.
Among the highlights of the evening was a folk presentation by Bhutanese artists depicting admiration for their country’s natural beauty and emphasising values of peace, harmony and compassion under the leadership of the King of Bhutan. The performance conveyed messages of moral integrity, humility and meaningful living rooted in Buddhist traditions.
The event was attended by Mukesh Singh as Chief Guest, along with Vetsop Namgyel, Mrs. Daw Zam, Dasho Ugyen K. Namgyel, Royal Chamberlain of Bhutan, and other dignitaries.
During the programme, Sanjit Rodrigues felicitated the Bhutanese Ambassador and other guests with mementos.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Vetsop Namgyel underlined the longstanding friendship between India and Bhutan and referred to the historical cultural and religious ties shared between Bhutan and Ladakh since the 17th century.
The cultural evening drew large participation from local residents and tourists, reflecting the continuing public enthusiasm surrounding the Sacred Exposition celebrations and the broader message of cultural harmony and peace.
