Jammu, Jul 21: A landslide triggered by intense rainfall struck the old track leading to the revered Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district early Monday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 8:50 am near Gulshan Ka Langar, close to Banganga — a primary starting point of the yatra known for high footfall of pony riders and pilgrims.
Heavy rains that lashed the Katra region, which serves as the base camp for devotees undertaking the uphill journey to the shrine atop Trikuta hills, led to the debris flow. The sudden landslide left at least four pilgrims injured.
Rescue teams responded swiftly to the emergency, launching an immediate operation to retrieve those trapped. All four injured were successfully evacuated and rushed to the hospital for treatment. Medical support and assistance were promptly extended to the victims.
Authorities confirmed that rescue operations were still in progress at the site when the latest reports were received, as teams continued to monitor the area for further risks due to unstable terrain.
