Leh, Apr 2: Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School on Wednesday observed Bhoti Day with a series of events aimed at strengthening awareness about the Bhoti language and its cultural relevance among students and the local community.
The programme brought together noted figures working in the field of language and heritage, including Dr. Sonam Wangchok, founder of Heritage Himalaya, Lobzang Rinchen of Pethub Khangtsen Education Society, and Stanzin Norboo. Addressing the gathering, the speakers underlined the need to preserve Bhoti as a vital part of Ladakh’s identity, especially in the face of changing linguistic trends.
A recognition ceremony formed an important part of the event, during which the school administration honoured Lobzang Rinchen and Stanzin Norboo with certificates and mementos. The honours acknowledged their sustained efforts in promoting Bhoti language education among school children across the region.
Earlier in the day, students organised a peace procession through Leh town to spread awareness about the language. The march began from Leh Gate and concluded at the school campus, drawing attention from residents and visitors alike. Participants carried messages highlighting the importance of safeguarding linguistic heritage, turning the procession into a public outreach effort.
The celebration also featured cultural performances, student presentations and speeches centred on Bhoti language and traditions. These activities reflected both the academic and cultural dimensions of the language, while encouraging student participation.
During their addresses, the invited guests commended the school for its consistent role in promoting Bhoti language education. They noted that institutions such as Lamdon School continue to play an important role in keeping the language relevant among younger generations.
The programme concluded with a renewed emphasis on cultural preservation and educational commitment, with organisers expressing hope that such initiatives will further strengthen awareness and use of the Bhoti language in Ladakh.
