Leh, Apr 16 : Ladakh has taken a quantum leap in apricot exports this harvest season. Following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the UT Administration and global retail giant Lulu International through APEDA, a massive 1,000 metric tonnes (MT) of Ladakhi apricots will be exported to international markets—a staggering jump from just 1,500 kg exported over the past two years.
The MoU will ensure end-to-end support for Ladakhi farmers, from procurement and processing to packaging and global marketing, while preserving theunique identity of Ladakhi apricots. This initiative is expected to drastically reduce post-production losses and secure premium pricing for farmers, thereby strengthening the local economy and horticulture sector.
The move positions Ladakh’s agricultural heritage on the global stage, opening new income avenues for thousands of farmers in the high-altitude region.
