‘Focuses on Education, Healthcare, Tourism, Co-Ops & Livelihood Opportunities’

Jammu, Sept 21: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, today highlighted the region’s rapid transformation and ongoing efforts to promote sustainable and inclusive development since its formation as a Union Territory. Addressing the LEAD Impact Conclave in Jammu, he emphasized that the Administration is committed to modern governance, renewable energy adoption, and people-centered initiatives.
Shri Gupta noted that Ladakh is witnessing a transformation through paperless governance and administrative reforms, positioning the Union Territory as a model for other regions. “Our endeavour is to ensure that Ladakh becomes a benchmark of balanced development, where economic progress is pursued in harmony with our cultural values and sensitive ecosystem,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor underlined that education, healthcare, and tourism remain top priorities. He said the Administration is focused on providing quality education, enhancing healthcare infrastructure, and promoting tourism as a driver of livelihood generation, particularly for youth. Health initiatives include the recently launched “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” campaign, aimed at improving women’s health and family well-being through awareness, screenings, and timely medical services.
Gupta also highlighted efforts to strengthen cooperatives and empower Self-Help Groups, connecting local producers with broader markets to generate sustainable livelihoods and ensure growth reaches every household. He stressed the significance of Ladakh’s traditional industries, particularly Pashmina, noting that the GI Tag is enabling artisans, especially women, to gain recognition and improve incomes.
Commending the spirit of collaboration at the conclave, the Lieutenant Governor said platforms like these bring together citizens, NGOs, businesses, and institutions to collectively advance regional development. “We will not just make plans but implement them. We will turn ideas into action and make Ladakh a land of hope and opportunity where development is inclusive, modern, and environmentally responsible,” he concluded.
The conclave saw participation from social entrepreneurs, civil society members, and representatives from various sectors, all expressing commitment to supporting Ladakh’s continued progress.
