Leh, Mar 14: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena welcomed the Centre’s revocation of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s NSA detention as a constructive move for regional harmony, even as he firmly ruled out any tolerance for unrest or violence in the Union Territory.
Speaking Saturday, Saxena praised the government’s decision to free Wangchuk after weeks of protests over Ladakh’s tribal rights and ecological concerns. “This is a positive step forward,” he noted, acknowledging the relief it brings to supporters who rallied peacefully for his release.
However, the LG stressed zero room for agitation or violent demonstrations, urging all stakeholders to channel grievances through constructive dialogue. “There is no space for agitation and violence here—dialogue remains the path to lasting solutions,” Saxena asserted, balancing celebration with a call for calm amid ongoing demands for Sixth Schedule protections.
The measured remarks come hours after Wangchuk walked free from Jodhpur jail, reigniting hopes for negotiated progress on Ladakh’s fragile environment and autonomy aspirations. Local leaders echoed support for talks, signaling potential de-escalation in the high-altitude standoff.
