Kargil, Oct 14: In a significant action to uphold food safety standards, the Court of the Additional District Magistrate, Kargil, has imposed a penalty of ₹2,80,000 on Dabur India Ltd. (Unit-2) for manufacturing and selling a misbranded food product, namely Dabur Glucose-D.
The case arose after food safety authorities collected a sample of ‘Dabur Glucose-D’ (Batch No. RU3420) for laboratory analysis. The test results revealed that the product’s Vitamin D content was only 0.94 mg per 100g, far below the declared value of 7.5 mg per 100g printed on the label. The discrepancy led officials to conclude that the product was misbranded, violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA).
Following due legal process, the Court found the company liable for misleading consumers about the nutritional content of its product and ordered the payment of the penalty.
The Food Safety Department of Ladakh, under the supervision of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), emphasized that this action reinforces the administration’s commitment to ensuring accurate labeling and consumer protection in the Union Territory.
Such violations not only deceive consumers but also erode public trust in reputed food brands. The administration reiterated that strict action will continue against any company found misbranding or selling unsafe or misleading food products.
The decision serves as a strong message to food business operators to adhere strictly to labeling norms and nutritional claims, as mandated under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
