Leh, June 1: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena, on Monday announced the constitution of the Ladakh Tourism Development Society (LTDS), a dedicated institutional mechanism aimed at promoting sustainable, responsible and community-centric tourism across the Union Territory.
In a statement, the LG said the society will function as the central agency for planning, promotion, regulation, coordination and implementation of tourism-related initiatives while ensuring environmental sustainability and preservation of Ladakh’s unique cultural heritage.
The LTDS, conceived as an autonomous body, will bring together government agencies, tourism industry representatives and local stakeholders to strengthen destination management and tourism promotion in the region.
The society will focus on the development and promotion of key tourism segments, including adventure tourism, astro-tourism, wildlife tourism and cultural tourism. It will also work towards infrastructure development, policy implementation and conservation of Ladakh’s ecological and cultural resources.
The initiative is aimed at positioning Ladakh as a world-class tourism destination while safeguarding its fragile ecosystem and promoting inclusive growth through greater community participation in the tourism sector.
Officials said the LTDS is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing tourism governance and creating a balanced model of development that benefits both visitors and local communities.
