New Delhi: BJP State President Tashi Gyaltsan Khachu, former Chief Executive Councillor Leh Adv. Tashi Gyalson and nominated Councillor Adv. Reyaz Khan on Wednesday met Union Minister for Health J.P. Nadda to discuss critical healthcare and medical infrastructure issues concerning the Union Territory of Ladakh.
During the discussion, the leaders voiced concern over the slow pace of work in bringing new medical facilities into service. They noted that Ladakh continues to struggle due to rough terrain and limited hospitals and said the delay is placing added burden on patients.
The delegation pressed for early functioning of the Ladakh Medical College and suggested that the institution be made operational under a temporary setup till a permanent structure comes up. They argued that students from the region should not have to wait longer for medical education within their own home district.
They also sought the green light for a Nursing College, saying it would help meet the growing need for trained staff. To support the sector, they urged quick formation of the State Allied Health Care Council so that medical services can be monitored and guided in a proper manner.
A separate appeal was made for creation of a State AIDS Control Society for Ladakh, which they said would help the administration handle HIV and related illnesses with full focus.
The delegation further asked for a CGHS Wellness Centre in both Leh and Kargil so that Central Government employees and pensioners posted in Ladakh are not left without health support. They also placed a request for assistance to the Al-Reza Medical Wing in Kargil which provides charity medical services to weaker sections.
Thanking the minister for his attention, the delegation said they looked forward to quick movement on these fronts to ensure Ladakh does not fall behind in access to health care.
