Kargil, Mar 31: A condolence meeting was held at the Language Centre, New Academy Complex in Kargil on Monday to mourn the demise of noted author and editor Akhone Muhammad Yusuf and Purgi poet Ali Akbar Shadaab, with members of the literary community describing their passing as a loss to the region’s cultural and linguistic heritage.
Organised by the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Kargil, the gathering was attended by staff members, representatives of literary associations, and several poets and writers who expressed grief over the deaths of the two literary figures.
Speakers at the meeting paid tributes to Yusuf and Shadaab, recalling their sustained contributions to the promotion and preservation of regional languages and literature. They noted that both individuals had played an active role in nurturing literary traditions in Kargil and across Ladakh.
The participants observed that their work would continue to influence future generations of writers and scholars, adding that their absence would be deeply felt within literary circles.
Those present also conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved families and offered prayers for the departed.
The meeting concluded with a collective expression of remembrance, underscoring the enduring legacy of the two writers in Ladakh’s literary discourse.
