Nyoma: Kisan Diwas was celebrated today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma (Leh-II), the highest Krishi Vigyan Kendra in the country, with the active participation of 78 farmers, along with KVK scientists and staff.

The programme was organized under the leadership of Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, Head, KVK Nyoma. During the programme, farmers were sensitized about the Viksit Bharat–G RAM G Bill, 2025, and detailed information was provided on how farmers can avail benefits under the scheme.

Seed distribution for the next coming season was also carried out among the farmers by Dr. Tashi Dolkar, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS), KVK Nyoma. A live telecast of the address by the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, was screened during the programme.

The address highlighted the national significance of Kisan Diwas and emphasized the importance of farmers in nation building, along with an interactive session with farmers at the national level. Lunch was arranged for all the participating farmers.

Following the programme at KVK Nyoma, the KVK team visited Phulak Village to celebrate Kisan Diwas with the local farming community. Farmers and officials actively participated in the programme. Alfalfa seeds as well as greenhouse polythene sheets were distributed to the villagers to support protected cultivation and enhance off-season vegetable production.

During the interaction, Dr. Tashi Dolkar shared her views on the importance of Kisan Diwas and emphasized the vital role of agriculture in strengthening rural livelihoods and ensuring food security. The team also highlighted important government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, and explained the procedures for availing benefits under these schemes. Technical guidance was provided on the cultivation of horticultural crops, with special emphasis on site selection, cultural practices, training and pruning, and grafting techniques.

A Swachhata (cleanliness) drive was also undertaken in and around the surroundings to promote cleanliness and hygiene.

A farmer–scientist interactive session was held at the end of the programme, during which farmers’ queries were addressed by the KVK experts.

The programme concluded with Dr. Tashi Dolkar expressing heartfelt gratitude to the villagers and Goba members for their active participation, cooperation, and support in making the programme successful.
