Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, Feb 12,– In a firm crackdown on activities threatening public order, Kishtwar Police have invoked the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) against notorious repeat offender Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Ghulam Shah from Shah Mohalla, Kurya Bridge, Kishtwar.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Naresh Singh-JKPS, confirmed the detention, executed via a warrant issued by the District Magistrate. A comprehensive police dossier detailed Ahmed’s persistent involvement in bovine smuggling, leading to his lodgment in District Jail, Bhaderwah.
The operation was led by Inspector Vikram Singh, SHO of Chattoo Police Station, with support from SI Roop Krishan, under the oversight of Deputy SP (PC Dachhan) Nitish Sharma-JKPS. This seamless coordination between police and district administration highlights Kishtwar’s resolve against organized crime.
Police records portray Ahmed as a habitual smuggler undeterred by prior legal actions. The PSA detention aims to dismantle smuggling networks, disrupt illegal trade routes, and deter anti-social elements in the region, where such activities often spark communal tensions and security risks.
SSP Naresh Singh issued a stern warning to all bovine smugglers: “Desist immediately, or face strict legal consequences.” He urged the public to collaborate in eradicating this menace, which jeopardizes peace and law enforcement in Kishtwar district.
Authorities emphasize that preventive measures like PSA will continue to safeguard public order amid rising concerns over smuggling in Jammu and Kashmir’s sensitive terrain.
