Jammu, Apr 8: District Magistrate Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma has enforced a complete prohibition on Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) across the district, citing national security risks and potential misuse for anti-national activities.
Issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the order follows intelligence inputs about VPNs being used to evade cyber restrictions and access banned platforms for spreading inflammatory content and coordinating unrest.
The ban covers all individuals, institutions, cyber cafes, businesses, and ISPs in Kishtwar, effective immediately, with exemptions only via explicit government approval. Violations will face strict legal action to protect public order and cyber security.
