NEW DELHI, Aug 3: Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah make a statement in Parliament on the alleged lathicharge and use of pellet guns against students protesting the NEET paper leak.
Speaking after a meeting of INDIA bloc floor leaders in Parliament, Kharge also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond to allegations regarding the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
In a post on X, Kharge said the Opposition would continue to press the government on the two issues.
“The Home Minister should come to Parliament and explain the lathicharge and pellet gun action on students. The Prime Minister should answer how donations made to the Shri Ram Mandir were allegedly stolen despite the Trust being under his oversight,” he said.
The Opposition has been demanding a statement from Amit Shah on the police action against student protesters on July 20, including the reported use of pellet guns, and has also sought his resignation over the incident.
The meeting of INDIA bloc leaders was attended by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and K.C. Venugopal, Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav, Trinamool Congress MPs Mahua Moitra and Sagarika Ghose, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Sanjay Raut and Arvind Sawant, JMM’s Mahua Maji, CPI(M)’s John Brittas, CPI’s P. Santhosh Kumar and RSP’s N.K. Premachandran, among others.
The INDIA bloc has vowed to corner the government during the ongoing Parliament session over the alleged Ram Temple donation theft and the alleged use of excessive force against students protesting the NEET paper leak.
