SRINAGAR, FEB 3: Night temperatures across Kashmir rose slightly, with Srinagar logging a minimum of 2.8°C—over three degrees above the normal seasonal average—officials said on Tuesday.
The gradual, consistent uptick in the summer capital’s night temperatures follows the end of Chillai Kalan, the Valley’s harshest 40-day winter period.
Gulmarg, the famed ski resort in Baramulla district, stayed the coldest spot in Jammu and Kashmir at minus 5.3°C, still two degrees warmer than its usual minus 7.4°C average.
Pahalgam, south Kashmir’s tourist hub and Amarnath Yatra base camp, saw a sharp four-degree jump to minus 0.4°C.
Other Valley spots: Qazigund at 0.4°C, Kokernag at 0°C, and Kupwara at minus 0.5°C.
Chillai Khurd, the milder 20-day cold spell, started Saturday after Chillai Kalan, to be followed by the final 10-day Chillai Bachha phase.
