BENGALURU, May 28 : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday submitted his resignation to the Governor’s Special Secretary at Lok Bhavan here.
Special Secretary Prabhu Shankar received the resignation in the absence of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who is currently in Indore for personal reasons, according to Lok Bhavan sources.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and other cabinet colleagues accompanied Siddaramaiah during the formal submission of the resignation. Officials said the Governor will take a decision on its acceptance.
Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah hosted a breakfast meeting with cabinet colleagues at his residence, where he informed them of his decision to step down and indicated that Shivakumar would succeed him as Chief Minister, reportedly in line with the Congress high command’s directions.
Visuals shared by the Chief Minister’s Office showed Siddaramaiah embracing an emotional Shivakumar during the meeting. In another image, Shivakumar is seen touching Siddaramaiah’s feet and seeking his blessings, underscoring the leadership transition within the state unit.
