


Kargil, Oct 02: In a concerted effort to promote hygiene and environmental consciousness, the Rural Development Department (RDD), Kargil, successfully conducted a district-wide cleanliness drive on October 1 and 2, covering all 98 Panchayats across 15 Blocks.
The campaign, part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 initiative, themed “Swachhotsav”, emphasized cleaning areas that are often neglected. Villagers, Panchayat Secretaries, Block Development Officers, volunteers, and frontline workers actively participated, demonstrating strong community engagement.
Over the fortnight-long campaign, a series of programmes were organized across the district. These included cleanliness and awareness drives in villages, schools, and public institutions; Shramdaan activities in markets, water bodies, and religious sites; and dedicated Gram Sabhas addressing sanitation and waste management challenges. In addition, Safaimitra Suraksha initiatives highlighted the safety, health, and welfare of sanitation workers.
The drive reached its peak on October 1 and 2, with visible cleanliness initiatives undertaken in every Panchayat. Community members turned out in large numbers, reflecting a collective commitment to maintaining a clean and green Kargil.
District Panchayat Officer Kargil, Raziya Khatoon, JKAS, lauded the contributions of Block Development Officers, Panchayat Secretaries, sanitation staff, and villagers, noting that their cooperation was instrumental in the campaign’s success.
The Rural Development Department reaffirmed its pledge to sustain the momentum of Swachhata Hi Seva, aiming to foster a cleaner and healthier environment in Kargil in the long term.
