Leh, Apr 24 : A coordinated anti-encroachment drive by the District Administration Kargil has cleared long-standing obstructions along a proposed road alignment in Garkon village of Aryan Valley, setting the stage for the resumption of a delayed infrastructure project.
Acting on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Kargil, a joint team led by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue and Tehsildar Kargil, along with officials from the Revenue and Roads & Buildings Department, dismantled illegal structures and removed trees that had been hindering construction work for years.
Officials on the ground confirmed that the operation resolved a protracted dispute that had stalled the project, with the clearance expected to facilitate uninterrupted progress in the coming weeks. The road, once completed, is anticipated to ease movement in the region and improve connectivity within the valley.
Residents welcomed the action, describing it as a long-overdue intervention. “It’s encouraging to see such steps being extended beyond Khudam bridge towards Iqbal bridge. These areas were heavily congested with traffic,” said Zubin Abidi, a local resident.
The administration maintained that the drive was carried out in accordance with established procedures, with an emphasis on restoring public land for developmental use. Officials added that similar actions may follow in other areas where encroachments continue to impede public works.
The Garkon stretch, part of a broader plan to strengthen road infrastructure in Aryan Valley, had remained incomplete due to repeated delays arising from land disputes and unauthorised constructions. With the alignment now cleared, authorities are optimistic about meeting revised construction timelines.
The development is expected to bring relief to commuters and support economic activity in the region, which has long grappled with limited road access and seasonal bottlenecks.
