Jammu, Apr 2: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said a total of 639 industrial units have been established in the Union Territory over the past two financial years, reflecting significant investment and employment generation.
Replying to a question from BJP MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia in the Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said that 234 industrial units were set up in 2023-24 and 405 units in 2024-25.
He said that the newly established units have attracted an investment of Rs 75,734.96 crore and have the potential to generate employment for 41,365 people.
Providing further details, Choudhary said that a substantial quantum of land has been transferred to the Industries and Commerce Department in Jammu division following the notification of the J&K Industrial Policy 2021-30.
“Kathua district accounted for the highest land transfer with 5,532 kanal and 7 marla, followed by Samba with 1,482 kanal and Jammu with 277 kanal. Other districts include Reasi (500 kanal and 13 marla), Poonch (208 kanal) and Kishtwar (40 kanal),” he said.
The deputy CM also said that 758 industrial units have been established in Jammu division alone since the introduction of the Industrial Policy 2021-30.
On district-wise allocation, the government said Kathua leads with 233 units allotted land measuring 4,830 kanal, followed by Samba with 117 units and 775 kanal.
Udhampur has 17 units with 36 kanal, while Jammu and Reasi have one unit each with 24 kanal and 1 kanal of land respectively, Choudhary added.
He further said that the land identified for industrial units has been handed over to the allottees with proper documentation.
