Jammu, Mar 10: In a significant administrative reshuffle aimed at enhancing efficiency and coordination across critical environmental domains, the Jammu and Kashmir Government issued orders Tuesday transferring and posting 14 senior officers from the Forest Department, including Indian Forest Service (IFS) and Divisional Forest Officer (DCF) rank officials.
The comprehensive rotation, ordered in the “interest of administration,” strategically repositions personnel across specialized wings such as Forest Research, Wildlife Protection, Social Forestry, the Pollution Control Committee, Jammu and Kashmir Forest Development Corporation Limited (JKFDCL), and Soil & Water Conservation divisions. This move reflects the UT administration’s ongoing efforts to inject fresh leadership into environmental management amid pressing challenges like deforestation, wildlife conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable resource utilization in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan region.
While specific names of all 14 officers were not detailed in the initial order, the transfers target high-impact roles that demand expertise in research, policy implementation, and field operations. Key focus areas include bolstering research initiatives for afforestation and biodiversity preservation, strengthening wildlife protection amid human-animal conflicts, and accelerating social forestry programs to combat soil erosion in vulnerable districts.
Officials posted to JKFDCL will drive commercial forestry and timber management, while those in the Pollution Control Committee will tackle air quality and industrial emissions—issues exacerbated by rapid urbanization in Jammu and Kashmir. Soil & Water Conservation postings underscore the government’s priority on watershed management, critical for agriculture-dependent rural economies facing erratic monsoons and glacial retreat.
