Jammu, Jan 13: Jammu and Kashmir is transforming into a major medical hub through unprecedented infrastructure growth, with two AIIMS, 12 medical colleges, 17 critical care blocks, and 3,166 wellness centres strengthening services from tertiary care to remote villages.
AIIMS Jammu now delivers world-class treatment, reducing external referrals, while AIIMS Kashmir nears completion for advanced cardiology, oncology, and neurology services. Medical colleges have tripled to 12 across underserved districts like Anantnag, Rajouri, and Doda, alongside expanded AYUSH facilities.
MBBS seats rose from 500 to 1,725, PG/super-specialty from 513 to 802, and DNB from 20 to 438, boosting local specialists. Nursing seats jumped to 3,000+, paramedical to 1,900, and B-Pharmacy to 373.
Key projects include 243-bed Labour Block at SMGS Jammu, 100-bed Mother & Child Hospital in Rajouri, State Cancer Institutes, and 489 ambulances. Health indicators improved with infant mortality dropping to 14 and sex ratio at birth reaching 976.
