Jammu, March 17 :Jammu and Kashmir’s voter lists just got a big boost: over 1.60 lakh new voters added, 67,690 names cleaned up, and 2.29 lakh corrections made during the recent Special Summary Revision (SSR).
This annual tune-up—separate from intensive revisions elsewhere—zapped 10,639 duplicates and 34,675 shifted entries, ensuring cleaner rolls.
Jammu leads with 11,89,555 electors, followed by Srinagar (7,53,222) and Baramulla (7,20,500). Srinagar saw the most additions (30,077), while Jammu topped deletions (10,430).
Now, J&K boasts 87,42,878 total voters: 44,65,161 men, 42,77,568 women, and 149 third-gender—steps closer to full inclusion.
Authorities aim for 100% registration, leveraging four yearly qualifying dates (Jan 1, Apr 1, Jul 1, Oct 1) under the Representation of the People Act. The SVEEP program ramps up awareness, targeting youth, women, and marginalized groups with ethical voting drives since 2009.
