Sopore, Dec 27: Security forces detected and safely destroyed a suspicious object near Hygam along the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway in North Kashmir’s Sopore area on Saturday, prompting immediate security protocols and temporary traffic restrictions.
Officials said the object was spotted near Hygam, a sensitive stretch along the strategic national highway connecting Srinagar to Baramulla. The discovery triggered an immediate multi-agency response involving the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
“A joint team of Army, CRPF, and Police reached the spot promptly and cordoned off the area to ensure public safety,” an official said.
The security forces established a perimeter around the location to prevent any potential threat to civilians and traffic passing through the busy highway corridor.
Given the nature of the suspicious object, authorities summoned a specialized Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) to examine and assess the threat level.
“Traffic movement and civilian access were restricted as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident,” the official explained, adding that the restrictions were implemented to create a safe zone for the BDS team to operate.
After a thorough examination and assessment, the bomb disposal experts successfully destroyed the object using controlled detonation procedures.
“The BDS, after examining the object, destroyed it in a controlled manner,” the official confirmed.
Following the successful neutralization of the suspicious object, security forces lifted the cordon and restrictions in the area. Normal traffic movement and civilian activities resumed along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
The incident highlights the continued vigilance of security forces in North Kashmir, particularly along critical transportation arteries. The Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway serves as a vital link for both civilian traffic and security operations in the region.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact nature of the suspicious object or whether it posed an immediate explosive threat. Investigations are likely underway to determine the origin and intended purpose of the object.
The swift coordination between multiple security agencies and the professional handling of the situation prevented any potential casualties or disruption to normal life in the area.
