SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday withdrew three Bills proposing an increase in the salaries and allowances of Members of the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister and Ministers following objections raised by BJP MLAs.
The decision was taken during the ongoing Autumn Session of the J&K Assembly after BJP legislators raised objections to the proposed increase in salaries and allowances.
Responding to the objections, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said there had been no dissenting note in the House Committee that had recommended the increase.
Omar Abdullah said BJP members wanted an increase in their salaries and allowances, while also raising the financial difficulties faced by daily-wage workers.
The Chief Minister said he was not personally in favour of the proposed increase and stated that the Bills would not be passed if even a single member opposed them.
Following his statement, Omar Abdullah withdrew the Bills, after which the Assembly approved their withdrawal by a majority vote.
The three Bills sought to increase the salaries and allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers and MLAs of Jammu and Kashmir.
