GANDERBAL, Dec 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a charge-sheet in connection with FIR No. 13/2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at Police Station ACB Srinagar against Mohammad Muzaffer Rather, former Sarpanch of Manigam, Ganderbal, in a bribery case.
The case was registered on August 1, 2023, following a written complaint alleging that Rather demanded a bribe of ₹9,000 from the complainant to facilitate the settlement of a property dispute between him and his sister. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe money. The tainted amount was recovered on the spot, and subsequent chemical tests confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on the accused’s hands.
Based on substantial evidence and findings collected during the investigation, the agency established the commission of offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the former Sarpanch.
After obtaining the necessary sanction for prosecution from the competent authority, the charge-sheet was presented today before the Court of the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, for judicial consideration.
