JAMMU: The Jammu Division of Northern Railway generated approximately ₹57 lakh in revenue from fines during its November ticket checking drive, officials said on Monday.
Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar and the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal, the division has been conducting intensified checks across major stations and trains to curb ticketless and irregular travel. These checks were carried out at key locations including Jammu, Katra, Pathankot Cantt, Pathankot City, and Srinagar.
During November 2025, ticket checking staff along with Chief Ticket Inspectors detected 9,346 passengers travelling without valid tickets or with irregular travel documents, resulting in fines amounting to nearly ₹57 lakh.
In addition to routine inspections, the division also conducted surprise checks to prevent unauthorized entry onto trains and platforms. Officials said these efforts ensure that genuine passengers experience better services and hassle-free travel.
To maintain hygiene standards, teams also monitored cleanliness across stations. During these checks in November, fines totalling ₹17,000 were imposed on 53 passengers for littering within station premises.
