NEW DELHI — Israel has renewed pressure on India to formally declare Hamas and other anti‑Israel groups as terrorist organisations, calling for “reciprocity” after India’s listing of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
According to senior Israeli foreign‑ministry officials, New Delhi’s stance would carry “significant weight across South Asia,” and a clear designation could strengthen global coordination against extremist networks.
Jerusalem pointed out what it described as “linkages” between Hamas, LeT and other transnational criminal or militant networks — warning that without restrictions, these groups could exploit criminal routes and networks to carry out attacks abroad.
The appeal comes just days after the Israeli Defence Forces called on India for a “clear statement” signalling the threat they say these organisations pose.
So far, while many Western countries have already designated Hamas as a terrorist outfit, India has refrained from such a formal move — despite condemning Hamas’s 2023 attacks on Israel.
